"Ninja Assassin" hauling a half of total production cost during 1st week

Ninja Assassin box-office hit is anticipated, since Ninja Assassin which has been considered to be an epoch of the action movie after it was released, is enjoying great popularity among the audience, and the outstanding force of Rain's acting is continuing to draw critical acclaim.

Also, Ninja Assassin, in which Korean superstar Rain plays his first Hollywood leading role, succeeded in garnering a half of the production cost during its first week, signaling a high prospect for the movie.

According to the data released by the box office Mojo on Nov. 30, Ninja Assassin has taken in total ticket sales of $13.135 million in 2,503 theaters during the 3-day period from Novr27 to Nov29, to record a total of $ 21.0 million and rank No.6 on movie charts.

This is an equivalent to a half of its production costs of $ 40.0 million already recovered within its first of week of release. As the total excludes the sales from overseas, however, the movie may have earned by far more than this tally, and, as it continues to score well and earns from other sales including DVDs and cable network rights, it is expected to successfully win more than the production cost.

The success of Ninja Assassin is certainly noteworthy in several aspects. The movie is R-rated and is being screened in 2,503 theaters. Meanwhile, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", which tops the list, is PG-13 and is being screened in 4,024 theaters, and "The Blind Side", also PG-13, screened in 3,140.

The success of this R-rated movie during the U.S. Thanksgiving ‘family-oriented’ holiday is taking some people in the industry by surprise and the local news reports say Warner Bros is encouraged by the news.
